The communications Ministry found no reason for blocking Telegram in Russia
The Russian authorities see no reason for blocking Telegram in Russia. This was stated by the Minister of communications and mass communications of the Russian Federation Nikolay Nikiforov.
“I do not see prerequisites for the blocking of certain messengers,” said the head of Department Nikolay Nikiforov, answering the question about the possible blocking of the RF Telegram messenger.
According to officials, the Russian authorities do not pursue the objectives of the resource lock operating in the framework of the law. He noted that there are no special “lists resources that may be blocked”.
In early may it was reported that Roskomnadzor sent a Telegram letter with a request to provide data for the registration of a company in the register of the organizers of disseminating information. According to media reports, the Ministry has warned the company that if data is not provided, the resource may be blocked.
The Telegram leaders while shying away from negotiations and refuse to enter into the register of organisers of dissemination of information.
On may 24 the state Duma introduced a bill on the regulation of services of electronic communications. It prohibits users to exchange messages in instant messengers without having to identify the phone number. This document essentially proposes to ban anonymity, messengers, introducing compulsory user identification.
