#GENIUS | Anniversary edition: iOS 10, macOS Sierra and a moment of humor
Apple produces not only comfortable and beautiful but also easy to use products, many of which will master even a child. However, the combination of art and technology, with a light hand of Steve jobs come into our lives, by itself, cannot guarantee absolute protection of user confusion. Specifically for such cases and there is our topic Genius, which we understand does not require “surgical intervention” questions.
Dear friends! A year ago “in print” has left the first installment of GENIUS. During this time we managed to solve the many diverse problems associated with the technique of Apple, but today I decided to get out of the usual format and parse more questions, and write a small digression. However, to paraphrase an old proverb, — case time, and the rest can wait.
The first issue relates to the newly released iOS 10, namely, the last major “revision” of the Music app.
Obviously, this issue bothers many people — the other day a friend lamented the lack of function after updating, and the questioner personally answered by our editor in chief. I hasten to reassure — the function has not disappeared, but simply moved to a new location. To detect it, you only need to swipe up on the playback screen, the cherished button located at the bottom of the pop-up menu.
The second issue is with “older sister” mobile systems — computer macOS.
Gatekeeper is one of the external “defensive line” Mac, along with proprietary tool malicious software removal protects system without any third-party software. In one of the beta versions of the macOS Sierra company hid the option that allows you to install applications from unknown sources, but unfortunately, in the final Assembly function has been returned to a prominent place. Why unfortunately? The answer is simple — advanced “MacOS users could easily return to function in the system, and users are not particularly interested in the device OS, was protected from untrusted apps. More recently, attackers have already seized the moment and created a very plausible for “unsophisticated audience” fake posing as a system notification to Mac OS. More information on this topic covered in one of the previous editions, we focus on an alternative method that does not require you to disable Gatekeeper altogether. In order to run “non-certified” software (what to do without a clear understanding of not recommended), move the file to the Applications folder and select “Open” from the context menu with the mouse, while holding down the[alt/option]. In the appeared dialog box, confirm the run — now the system will not warn if no digital signature for this program.
It is also possible to allow the opening of the program, click “Protection and security” pane of System preferences.
In the third question, concerning macOS, we are talking about functions relevant today.
Quickly create a bootable disk (after downloading the OS file from the Mac App Store) using Disk utility. By default, the program located in the Utilities folder, and the creation process is very straightforward and requires no special skills. Open the application and select “Erase” at the top of the window. In the menu, enter the name of the disk (the easiest way is Untitled), not forgetting to select the appropriate file system type — “OS X Extended (jurnalismului)”.
Making sure that other external drives are attached to the computer, go to the Terminal, also located in the Utilities folder, and enter the following command.
sudo /Applications/Install macOS Sierra.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia —volume /Volumes/Untitled
—applicationpath /Applications/Install macOS Sierra.app —nointeraction
You will need to enter the administrator password. If the account is not password protected, you must have already created it under “Users & groups” pane of System preferences. After the completion of the carrier ready for installation of the system. To do this, when booting up the computer hold down the [alt/option], then select Install macOS Sierra. Of course, you should backup all your data, then format the system drive for a smooth installation.
Traditionally a lot of questions for Airdrop, a topic that has already been addressed in the rubric.
I suggest to try another simple method. If the computer and the mobile device does not want to discover each other, create a couple of them via Bluetooth. To do this, go to the appropriate menu item and then select a device and enter the verification code.
Then open the Airdrop tab in Finder and try to transfer data. Curiously, this method can help even if the device is subsequently disconnected from each other. In addition, in some cases it fixes and new feature for Mac — a versatile clipboard.
Right at the time of this writing, Twitter has received another question from a regular reader and nick Antonik1983, known as the Macuser1983.
Of course, in the screenshot depicted nothing like another attempt to fool the user (the so-called “phishing”). It is easy to determine — in addition to obvious grammatical errors, the text letters are non-existent concept of ‘App ID’ and ‘Account Manager’ and is sent with arbitrary’, not having any relation to Apple [email protected]). Of course, clicking links from these messages is not necessary, and to report to Cupertino you can use the “forward email as attachment”.
For such cases, Apple has provided a separate email address.
By the way, if we are talking about spam, use another email address, and iMessage even has a special button.
And now, as promised, a little poetry and humorous question.
It so happened that this release is the last, the work of your humble servant, and I want to thank the readers for the time spent together. It was a fascinating and fruitful cooperation, in which the author not only shared knowledge, but also learned a lot myself. I hope I managed to help at least a small part of the audience, but for everyone else we have good news — the category of GENIUS continues its existence under the auspices of the wonderful friends and colleagues from the office AppleInsider.ru. I’m answering a reader’s question with nick TommyELV are still available on Twitter. Thanks again and see you soon!
