How to add a switch in the Dock on macOS

If you are a regular switch from light to dark theme and back, and you are tired to enter in settings, we found a way of accelerating the change of registration for macOS.

One of the major changes in the macOS Mojave — support for full dark mode. However, Apple did not take into account the fact that users often switch from light to dark and back. Since the default system is not able to automatically perform this action, you have to find workarounds.

How to add a switch in the Dock on macOS

  • Run Automator and click “New document”. Automator is installed on every Mac. It can be found via Spotlight or in the category of “Other” in the list of all programs on the Mac.
  • In the opened window select “Program” and click “Choose”.
  • In the category of “Actions”, go to “Utilities” and double-click on the “Change the interface”.
  • Make sure that under “Change themes” is “Light/Dark”. If there is another value, change it to “Light/Dark” from the drop down list.
  • In the menu bar, click “File” → “Save” (combination ⌘ + S), name the file and save it in the correct folder.
  • After that, drag the file to the Dock from the folder in which you saved it.
  • When you first start the app will show an alert with a warning that the system will be modified. Just hit OK to continue. Now you can change themes with just one click.
