How to configure shared clipboard in iOS and macOS 10 Sierra

The iPhone and iPad users who have Mac computer, must install on their gadgets iOS and macOS 10 Sierra at least for one reason — the shared clipboard between devices. How it works and what the pitfalls can be when it is set up? Now a look.

In fact to specifically configure something don’t need: new feature itself starts to work, if taken into account all the recommendations. First, you need to enter on your Mac and iOS device under one Apple ID. On iPhone and iPad you can do this in the iCloud section on the Mac in system preferences section is the same.

Then check all your devices support Bluetooth LE (Bluetooth 4.0). To check on a Mac go to the Apple menu — About this Mac” — “system Report” — Bluetooth.

List of iOS devices with Bluetooth LE set out below.

iPhone
• iPhone 4s
• iPhone 5
• iPhone 5c
• iPhone 5s
• iPhone 6
• iPhone 6 Plus
• iPhone 6s
• iPhone 6s Plus
• iPhone 7
• iPhone 7 Plus
iPad
• iPad 3
• iPad 4
• iPad mini
• iPad mini 2
• iPad mini 3
• iPad mini 4
• iPad Air
• iPad Air 2
• iPad Pro has a 9.7
• iPad Pro 12.9

If everything is in order, connect Mac and iOS device via Bluetooth and use the shared clipboard will not even need a connection to the same Wi-Fi network.

Then just copy for example text from “Notes” on iPhone and insert it into Pages on a Mac with Cmd+V.

If you copy the picture from iPhone or iPad to the computer, it can be inserted only in those applications that support image — Preview, Pages, Sketch and so on. Just copy to your desktop will not work.

It is strange that if you copy a picture on a Mac, it can not be inserted into the “Photo” on iOS, but in the same “Notes” or Pages. I want to believe that this time Apple will work.

It should be noted that the contents of the shared clipboard is automatically deleted after two minutes, but if you something else is copied to this file will be overwritten with the new one.

Actually I have a universal clipboard works through time: everything is copied, as necessary, the function “falls off”. Perhaps in new versions of iOS and macOS Sierra function will be improved.
