Sales of tablets will fall by 2023

According to the forecast Digitimes Research, global tablet shipments in 2018 and 2019 will be reduced to 141 million units per year. This happens due to the flooding of the market with smartphones with large displays.

Analysts say that over the years 2021-2023 sales of tablets in the world will be reduced annually by about 2-3%, and after this period will remain at the level of 120 million units per year.

Most likely, the coming years show a more or less steady pace of sales will only be tablets with displays larger than nine inches, because of the growing demand of consumers who want to change the model a little and will also be an increase in purchases from the education sector. However, in 2018, sales of tablet computers will still fall due to the decline in overall demand.

Many companies, including Apple, offer smartphone users with displays from six to seven inches. The market is filled with such devices for quite a while, but now the rate of increase will slow displays. The only solution for fans of larger screens will be the tablets which still have the opportunity to develop and become easier, thanks to the introduction of frameless displays or additional functions. Digitimes Research expects that the principal dimensions of the tablet after 2020 will be from 9.7 to 12.9 inches.

It is expected that the share of Apple in the tablet market in the next five years will be gradually expanded with the launch of the entry-level iPad. In addition, a longer life of the iPad, compared to Android will make Apple the best choice for users.
