Samsung showed a 5.5-inch display with a resolution of 4K

Samsung has introduced a new 5.5-inch screen, focused on virtual reality technology. According to the manufacturer, a display panel capable of making VR content much more realistic.

A screen with a 5.5-inch diagonal is characterized by a resolution of 4K (3840 x 2160 pixels), which corresponds to the density of 806 pixel per inch. While the display shown is just a prototype, but it can be expected that next year Samsung will release a full-fledged VR headset, equipped with a screen with these options.

The screen is bright, has high contrast and color reproduction, said Samsung. But in a demonstration showing a low frame rate, although precise data on the speed of switching images, the manufacturer does not provide.

Key features display:

  • diagonal — 5.5 inches;
  • the resolution is 3840×2160 (4K);
  • the number of pixels per inch — 806;
  • brightness — 350 nits;
  • the coverage of the color palette RGB — 97%.

Along with 4K display Samsung showed of AMOLED panel technology, Bio Blue. Its essence is to reduce the proportion of blue in the emission spectrum of the screen. In particular, the proportion of blue when using Blue Bio is only 6%, whereas that of a conventional AMOLED panel, the figure is 32%.

Use for VR applications is that people will get less strain on the visual apparatus from a long-term stay in virtual reality.
