The creation of the quantum computer will be 750 million rubles

Ministry of education and science, Rosatom and the Foundation for advanced studies (FPI) announced the beginning of joint work on creating a quantum computer. The project to develop quantum computing systems designed for three-and-a-half years. This was reported on the website of the Ministry of education.

The initiative is named “development of technology of information processing based on superconducting qubits”. The project will cost more than 750 million rubles, more than 210 million from the Ministry of education and science aimed at creating the necessary for the project implementation of infrastructure programmes in universities-the performers (MISIS, MIPT, NSTU).

More than 200 million rubles allocated “Rosatom”, will go to outfitting the laboratory VNIIA them. N. L. Spirit necessary technological and experimental equipment. And about 340 million rubles from the Fund of perspective researches will be directed on carrying out scientific research in the framework of the project.

“In the period up to 2030 work in the stated direction is able to provide revolutionary advances in computing in the interest of modern materials science, cryptography, solving various optimization problems,” – said in a press release.

The project participants expect that the results obtained will be widely used in many key sectors of the economy, as well as in the field of maintenance of defensibility of the country. But their ultimate goal is to create a universal quantum computer.

Currently working quantum computer is a hypothetical device. For calculations and data processing, such a computer uses quantum algorithms that exploit the processes of the quantum nature (quantum superposition, entanglement, entanglement and so on).
